What: Women's History Assembly - Student Play (Ni Una Mas: The Women of Juarez and Special Performance by Cihuatl Tonali)

When: Friday, March 31, 2006 @ 9:00 a.m.

Where: El Sereno Middle School Auditorium

Who: Chicano Student Heritage Group and Cihuatl Tonali

The Chicano Student Heritage Group have organized El Sereno Middle School's 1st Annual Women's History assembly to honor the contributions of women with particular emphasis on creating awareness among our students about the plight of Women in Juarez with a student-based play and a performance by Cihuatl Tonali.

Students feel that this is an important time to remember those individuals who have made positive contributions to the community. As well as to remember the over 400 women and countless others who have disappeared without trace in the Mexican border town of Juarez since 1993. The event will be marked by students performing a play based on events emanating from Ciudad Juarez. Cihuatl Tonali is a collective of indigenous women, community and cultural activists that express their passion for social justice through the art of music.

As Veronica Garcia, president of the Chicano Student Heritage Club, states "It is important to remember where we come from, so that we can move forward and make positive change in our community. We need to remember that many people have died to make our country great".
