It is with great pleasure to announce that over AU$5,500 was raised for Amigos de las Mujeres de Juarez in September 2004. Amigos de las Mujeres de Juarez is a non-profit organisation offering emotional and financial support to the families of serial-killing victims in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico including the groups Justicia para Nuestras Hijas, Nuestras Hijas de Regreso a Casa and Casa Amiga Rape and Crisis Center.

The fundraising events which took place in Melbourne (Australia) included a film, concert and series of t-shirts. The documentary Senorita Extraviada screened to a sell-out audience at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Federation Square, on Tuesday August 31. A concert at the Corner Hotel, Richmond featuring Clare Bowditch, Katie Noonan & Paul Grabowsky and Adam Cole & the Pollen Choir took place on Thursday September 2. T-shirts designed by FLIQ, Reuben Stanton, Sara Bowyer and Chantel Camilleri were available for purchase before the film and during the concert.

The money raised came from ticket sales to the film and concert, t-shirt sales, and a private donation. I would like to sincerely thank everybody who helped make these benefits possible in Melbourne, including the ongoing support from independent and community media. And most importantly, my heart goes out to the women of Juarez and the memory of our sisters who have been abruptly and violently taken from us.
